    The officers and directors of a Poughkeepsie company that has saddled thousands of employers with an estimated $250 million in unfunded insurance claims reaped $42 million off the sale of company stock in 2005 and 2007, according to filings with the federal goverment.

    At the start of 2006, Compensation Risk Managers LLC of Poughkeepsie was a scrappy, high-flying young company that had just gone public on the NASDAQ and was earning millions of dollars in a promising corner of the market for workers’ compensation insurance.

    By the end of 2006, six of the eight insurance funds CRM managed in New York were drowning in a sea of red ink as deficits skyrocketed toward insolvency; a seventh would soon follow.
